Oh, great, another story where Shining dies.

Nothing against you, and I don't think it's objectively/morally wrong for a creator to do it, and I don't have a problem with any individual instance; it's just that he gets fucked over a lot in fan creations, and it happens to him in such a higher percentage than any other character. In so many serious stories he's in, he loses and dies. Because killing him is an easy way for a story to make hardship befall the 2 far more powerful and actually relevant characters: Twilight and Cadence. That's his point in stories is to die to torture Twilight and Cadence. It's depressing. This is just me venting.
